Provide technical expertise in the configuration, operation, support, standardisation, documentation, management, problem determination, problem resolution and security of Servers in Unix environments. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Providing in-depth technical support for Unix Servers
  • Acting as second line support for day to day problems and technical resource to other departments within the company.
  • Providing the technical interface to vendors and maintain plans for upgrades to base software products and hardware as appropriate.
  • Providing technical advice and guidance to other groups, as required.
  • Assisting in the development and maintenance of the technical infrastructure (eg standards and conventions, common procedures, housekeeping/systems management tools etc)
  • Assisting in the development and maintenance of technical aspects of the operational infrastructure as required.
  • Maintaining an awareness of appropriate technology.
  • Managing the escalation of problems through the relevant channels, both internally and externally with suppliers.
  • Problem ownership, determination and resolution where required.
  • Providing technical support for in-house Unix data delivery systems.
  • To evaluate, install, implement, integrate, tailor, maintain and fix Operating System tools that support open systems.
  • Evaluate and report on new software products or upgrades to existing products.

Essential:

  • Solaris administration experience in multi server environment (Versions 2.6 - 10)
  • Linux administration experience in multi server environment
  • Veritas File System, Volume Manager and Cluster experience
  • TCP/IP - Networking - LAN experience
  • Shell Scripting Skills
  • NIS

Desirable:

  • Solaris/Linux certification
  • AIX administration
  • Perl Scripting
  • Windows system administration
  • SQL Database administration
  • SAN administration
