We are presently recruiting for a Lead, Capital Markets Technology in Information Services.

With assets under management projected to grow to $310 billion within a decade, CPP Investment Board is one of the largest and fastest growing institutional investors in the world. Based in Toronto, the CPP Investment Board is governed and managed independently of the Canada Pension Plan by experienced and highly skilled investment professionals. Their job is to prudently invest CPP assets to help pay future pensions.

The Lead, Capital Markets Technologies, is responsible for the end-to-end delivery and support of technology solutions for CPPIB’s Global Capital Markets (GCM) Group. This role is a key relationship manager to the management team and investment professionals in this investment group, and is responsible for the implementation, support and integration of systems that support GCM’s portfolio management, analytic and trade execution activities. GCM is a sophisticated and rapidly growing portfolio management team, active across asset classes including cash and derivatives products in the equity, credit, currency and FX markets. This role is accountable for the client service relationship to GCM, manages the vendors that support investment systems and ensures that IS delivers the quality of technology expertise and services required for GCM to execute on their business objectives.

This role provides recommendations to senior management regarding the resources (human, financial, tools, etc.) required to complete assigned projects, and effectively manages change within the organization to transition systems from implementation to stable operations. When implementing new systems, this role takes a comprehensive view of the systems, process and architectural implications of GCM’s requirements, and the change management activities associated with the project. It ensures that support resources are in place to support systems on a 7x24 basis, in conjunction with Infrastructure Management and 3rd party vendor resources.

Role Specific Accountabilities

Management/Leadership

  • Defines strategic and operational technology plans with a 2-3 year time horizon for GCM, working closely with IS and GCM leadership, and in accordance with CPPIB’s information services strategy.
  • Recruits, trains, coaches and retains a cross functional team of investment systems professionals who work to support all aspects of the applications used by GCM
  • Manages the selection, configuration and management of information systems including the coordination of internal and external resources, and assignment of appropriate resources to successfully deliver systems solutions to GCM.

Client Relationship Management

  • Provides systems leadership for GCM’s portfolio management and transactional (e.g. OMS, EMS) platforms across the investment instruments that GCM seeks to invest in. This includes pre and post trade analytics, order management, compliance, execution management (e.g. EMS for algorithmic, direct execution, etc), order routing, trade matching, and market data services
  • Establishes and maintains an effective relationship with GCM clients, as a trusted advisor on the technology solutions required to achieve project and operational objectives
  • Specification and management of service level agreements (SLAs) for key providers of systems solutions, including proactively managing the relationship with key vendors to align their services and product roadmap with CPPIB’s business objectives and IS Strategy

Technology Solution Delivery

  • Ensuring that business requirements, which are often cross functional in nature, are properly assessed within the context of CPPIB’s broader business objectives.
  • Takes appropriate discretion in balancing competing priorities and communicates the strategic and tactical trade-offs, in clear business and technology terms, to advise senior management when taking project and/or operational decisions.
  • Effectively manages communications and relationships in accordance with CPPIB’s formal and informal organizational structures
  • Work closely with GCM, vendors and IS resources to ensure that projects achieve assigned benefits, and are delivered in accordance with agreed budgets and timelines

The Lead, Capital Markets Technologies must possess 7-10+ years of progressive experience in the trading, investment management and/or product vendor space. S/he demonstrates the capability to deliver on progressively senior mandates and to achieve results in fast-paced, quality focused business environment. As well, s/he conveys a strong, senior ‘presence’ and has the capability to effective lead and influence cross-functional teams of business and information services professionals.

• The ability to discuss technical issues with both technicians and business users is critical, as is rationalizing complex issues into clear, actionable business terms.

• The ability lead groups of individuals on a project basis; the ability to mediate conflicting priorities and take decisive action as required.

• Client focused nature, with client service skills which include solution delivery, stakeholder communications, relationship management and team building.

• Strong vendor management skills, including contract negotiation, service level management and issue resolution.

Education

• Bachelor’s or Masters degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Mathematics or related field

• Industry designations including CFA, CSC, etc are an asset
