The Real Estate team manages private real estate debt and equity in the U.S., Europe, Australia and Asia. The Portfolio Accountant (Analyst) is responsible for general accounting function relating to a real estate portfolio consisting of multi-housing properties and residential joint ventures. This position reports to the Senior Accountant of the group.

Responsibilities


  • Processing, reviewing, analyzing, and recording property and portfolio related operating data into financial statements in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.

  • Collect, verify, analyze, review and report monthly transactions from third party property managers or joint venture partners, ensure adherence to established accounting policies and procedures.

  • Assist in the preparation of quarterly/annual financial statements including supporting schedules in accordance with GAAP.

  • Work with joint venture partners accounting staff and management to ensure proper reporting and compliance.

  • Assist with the maintenance of partnership financials statements and capital accounts including waterfall distribution calculations.

  • Assist with workpaper preparation for external auditors on year-end audits.

  • Assist with workpapers for external tax accountants as part of the year end income tax return preparation.
  • Skills and Qualifications


  • Ability to work independently, and as part of a team that includes Asset Management, Information Systems, Valuations, Marketing, Risk Management, and Acquisitions.

  • Ability to handle multiple tasks, meet reporting deadlines and be very flexible.

  • Computer literacy is essential as many computer systems are used on a daily basis.

  • Financial and analytical skills, real estate operations preferred, and problem solving skills.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to deal with property and portfolio personnel.

  • Bachelors Degree in Accounting required.

  • New college grad would be preferred.
