Department Overview
Markit Indices is a leading independent provider of financial indices across all major asset classes. We manage and calculate Markit CDX and Markit iTraxx, the world’s leading credit derivatives indices, and the Markit iBoxx bond indices. Our indices are used by banks, asset managers and other financial institutions to create and manage financial products and investment risk, as well as in research.
Our bespoke index service provides clients such as investment banks and asset managers with tailor-made indices according to their specifications. The service covers design, test and daily calculation and publication.
Position summary
Markit is seeking a recent graduate to join the Index Administration Team to administer and manage indices in fixed income. The candidate will be responsible for the management of several fixed income indices.
The role spans all aspects of the index administration from the determination of the membership lists to assisting clients using the indices. Financial markets experience and/or exposure to DB and programming are a plus.
Duties & accountabilities
The individual will perform tasks associated with the administration of indices:
-Index rebalancing: Monthly and weekly universe screenings, membership list determination
-Quality control: Verification of the published membership lists
-Customer Queries: Assisting clients using the indices on questions and data requests
-Data management: Sourcing, cleaning and organizing of corporate events and static data
-Index documentation: Publication of index research reports
His accountability is towards his manager and team members. The indices are frequently used in financial products so a high degree of detail orientation and accuracy is required. The individual will be expected to continuously identify and develop improvements to quality and stability of his work.
The Index Administration Team works closely with Index Design, IT and Sales. The individual will be expected to work closely with other index teams in Markit.

Business Competencies
Education and experience
University graduate or equivalent, preferably in computing, finance-related or natural sciences. No advance degree required.
SQL programming, proven financial markets knowledge or knowledge of standard financial data vendor software are a plus.

The individual needs to be detail oriented enough to build high quality, superior products and possess the ability to understand business objectives and focus and prioritise multiple projects accordingly.
Management Requirements
No management experience required, the individual is expected to be a strong team player, with proven track-record of working with people that are not functionally tied to him/her, inside and outside of work.
