Broadreach Group has been mandated to conduct a search on behalf of the CTO of a major multi-strat hedge fund. This fund has a focus on Fixed Income so applicants should have significant depth in Fixed Income specifically Derivatives. Candidates with high level experience at a like fund are highly preferable. The CTO would like to see people with technical depth, financial acumen, and strong leadership skills.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Ensure staff is both continuously monitoring, enhancing and fixing applications to avoid interruption in service to internal customers
• Ensure that all business units receive timely, efficient and courteous service when addressing application development, integration and maintenance problems and/or requests
• Develop, integrate, update and support software that meet or exceed internal customers’ expectations on time and on budget
• Establish and enhance our software architecture and guidelines that improve the application development
• Establish and enhance application development guidelines that improve the application development and maintenance processes and work with business units to ensure project management best practices are understood and adhered to
• Develop and maintain processes and applications when new trading or externally managed portfolios or strategies are added with either minimum or no problems in a timely manner
• Partner with VP of Infrastructure to coordinate work/roll outs to avoid potential conflicts
• Partner with senior managers/internal business customers to identify, gather, & understand their goals and to formulate strategies to support them, while prioritizing requests and staying within deadlines
• Establish common ground among completing internal business unit requirements
• Improve the security of the company’s applications consistent with senior management’s directive to minimize unauthorized use and any potential damage to the business and/or systems
• Work collaboratively with team to create and share technology vision on an ongoing basis
• On a semi-annual basis, review and implement enhancements and fixes in key vendor applications (lead responsibility for) to ensure the organization has the best features and functionality for internal customers while not significantly jeopardizing the ability to conduct business in the near future (12-24 months)
• On a quarterly basis, properly remove any old/obsolete applications and data
• Inform all members of IT management on a regular basis (weekly) regarding application changes scheduled to take place within the next two weeks, whether it will impact them or not
• Manage and maintain on a regular basis (semi-annual or more if needed) accurate inventory records of all applications developed in-house or by vendors. (the inventory must include a description of the application, when created and last modified, the complexity/size and criticalness of the application, the developer and maintainer of the application, the programming language(s) used, front-end, back-end and database platform, the operator of the application, internal customers of the applications, interfacing applications)
• Manage group’s operating, salary and capital expenses to be within 10% of the approved budget. Any changes of exceeding the budget must be communicated to IT budget coordinator and Chief Technology Officer immediately
• Negotiate win-win software, data and consulting contracts for the company
• Research, evaluate, recommend, implement and support application development & maintenance and data tools and process that improve the efficiency and quality of the organization’s operations
• Perform additional functions as necessary (in CTO’s absence)
• Manage responsibilities pertaining to business continuity preparedness, documentation, Disaster Recovery site visits, etc.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPECTATIONS:
• BS in Computer Science/related field required (Masters desirable)
• Minimum 10 years of relevant IT experience within the financial/investment institutions
• Strong system design skills
• Database design and modeling skills
• Excellent experience in developing web applications
• Very good experience in Java, C++, C#, .Net
• Experience in/knowledge of Sybase
• Experience in/knowledge of Bloomberg, Reuters
• Experience in Murex, DSTi, Panorama, Sunguard, Investone are desirable
• Very good understanding of financial markets and instruments
• Excellent communication, interpersonal skills, and ability to communicate confidently with all levels of management
• Strong managerial and leadership skills
• Superior analytical skills
• Strong ethical foundation and a high degree of professionalism
