Position summary
 
A Production DBA role with responsibility within the Infrastructure / Operations team in a fast moving, innovative, and demanding environment.

Duties & accountabilities

To include:

24x7 support for existing and future Oracle 10g (Release 2)/11 RAC and non-RAC production databases on Solaris and Linux;

installations and upgrades, including DEV and QA instances;

capacity planning;

working with Dev groups on application and database configuration and tuning;

maintaining detailed documentation.

Business Competencies

Education and experience

Degree or equivalent in ideally a numerical subject

Previous solid, hands-on experience of the following is a must:

Oracle 10g (setup, maintenance, upgrades)

Oracle Performance Analysis and Tuning

Oracle Clusterware installation & Configuration

Oracle ASM

Providing 24x7 services, encompasing:

High Availability (RAC)

Backup & Recovery

Disaster Recovery (standby databases, including non-'Data Guard Broker' configurations)

Storage Management

Continuous Operations

Production support, problem diagnostics, and problem solving

Experience with the following would be a plus:

Sybase ASE and Replication Server

Good OS skills (scripting, troubleshooting)

Commercial Awareness
 
Ability to understand business objectives and focus and prioritize multiple projects accordingly.

A proven focus on proactive issue avoidance highly desirable

Communication
 
Ability to communicate with both technical and business people in language they understand essential.

Must be able to interact with authority on database issues

Teamwork

Must be able to work effectively with other Operations groups (network, server) in resoving issues

Needs to be able to project a strong professional work ethic onto other team members
