Position summary

The Senior Project Manager's prime responsibility is to ensure that projects under their control produce a result capable of achieving the benefits defined in the business case, by delivering the required products to the defined standard of quality and within the specified constraints of time and cost. The Project Manager is also responsible for ensuring that the Equities project portfolio as a whole is effectively planned and monitored, in order to provide senior management with the necessary information to make effective management decisions.

Duties & accountabilities

For all projects being undertaken in the Equities division, the Senior Project Manager will be accountable for the following:

Initiating projects, including producing feasibility studies, Project Charters, Project Initiation Documents and Business Cases

Preparing Project, Stage and if necessary, Exception Plans in conjunction with Team Managers and appointed Project Assurance roles, and agreeing them with the Project Board

Monitoring and controlling the project, including reporting progress against plan to the Project Board, Programme Management and other stakeholders

Directing and motivating the project team

Agreeing any delegations and use of Project Assurance roles required by the Project Board

Managing risk, including developing contingency plans

Liaising with the Programme Management team or related projects to ensure that work is neither overlooked nor duplicated

Taking responsibility for overall progress and use of resources and initiating corrective action where necessary. Resource planning will include scheduling staff from business analysis, technology development, infrastructure, testing and product / end user teams. Planning the use QA environments and release windows will also be an important part of this role.

Managing the change control process and any configuration management

Liaising with the Project Board, Programme Management and any appointed Project
Assurance roles to assure the overall direction and integrity of the project

Agreeing technical and quality strategy with appropriate members of the Project Board

Preparing the Lessons Learned and End of Project reports and defining any follow-on action recommendations required

Identifying and obtaining any support and advice required for the management, planning and control of the project

Being responsible for project administration

Liaising with any suppliers or account managers

May also perform Team Manager and Project Support roles

Business competencies
 
Education and experience

University graduate or equivalent is desirable 

Knowledge of Cash Equities & Index derivatives trading, order processing and settlement desirable

Member of the Association of Project Management (APM) or the Project Management Institute (PMI) desirable.

PRINCE 2 Practitioner desirable

Commercial awareness

Project Management experience within the Financial Services Sector is desirable.
