The role manages public policy issues of group wide or strategic importance and support initiatives to build Barclays corporate reputation.
Key responsibilities include:
- To manage public policy issues of group wide or strategic significance in consultation with relevant business clusters and senior internal stakeholders, to ensure that Barclays protects its long term commercial interests and does not damage its reputation.
- To maintain contacts and good working relations with key external stakeholders as directed by the Head of Public Affairs.
- To support proactive work to build Barclays reputation with external political and opinion leading stakeholders on selected public policy themes and to help promote a better internal understanding of reputation risk.
- Liaising with business colleagues and GRCB/IBIM Public Policy to ensure effective management and co-ordinator of public policy issues
- Reporting progress and areas of concern to the Head of Public Affairs.
Key skills and experience required:
- Significant public affairs, public policy or government relations experience in the financial services sector
- Sound political judgement
- Good policy skills; able to grasp and understand the significance and potential impact of a wide range of public policy issues and identify risks and opportunities for Barclays
- High level influencing and lobbying skills
- Flexible, able to work on range of issues and prioritise
- Team player, able to build trust at all levels across the business
- Strong relationship building and interpersonal skills
- Good understanding of the public policy environment in which Barclays operates
