Role Overview
The Bank wishes to engage a Gender Advisor who will assist in implementing its Gender Action Plan (GAP). The Gender Action Plan seeks to increase the economic participation of women, particularly in business and in decision making roles in the Bank's countries of operation. The individual will be responsible for the development, implementation and dissemination of information of specific projects with a view to increasing the coherence and visibility of the Bank's activities. Under the supervision of the Head, the Advisor would work closely wtih the Banking Departments as well as other relevant departments, such as the Office of the Chief Economist (OCE), Environment and Sustainability department (ESD) and the TurnAround Management (TAM/BAS) Programme.

Key Responsibilities and Deliverables
  • Advising and assisting in the implementation of the Gender Action Plan;
  • Supporting the Banking department and co-ordinating with ESD, and OCE (and any other departments as required) in defining and implementing specific initiatives under the Plan, including the implementation of pilot programmes in the three priority countries and two sectors selected by the Bank;
  • Reviewing relevant existing Bank activities related to gender wtih a view to increasing their visibility among target audiences;
  • Working with the Human Resources Department on the implementation of gender awareness training;
  • Identifying new opportunities to facilitate and promote gender equality;
  • Pilot programmes will be implemented in three countries (Romania, Georgia and Kyrgyz Republik) and two sectors (municipal and environmental infrastructure and agribusiness) in the first phase. Upon the conclusions of these programmes, the Advisor will help provide recommendations regarding potential implementation of further projects in other EBRD countries of operations and other sectors;
  • The Advisor will also coordinate research work that may be needed in order to improve understanding, develop policy dialogue as well as maximize the transition impact of EBRD projects in the area of gender equality.


Essential Skills, Experience & Qualifications
  • Advanced university degree, preferably in Social Sciences and/or Business;
  • At least 3 years' professional experience in banking or project implementation in/with an international financial institution, commercial bank, or development agency and additional 3 year' professional experience with developing/implementing business opportunities, preferably with a focus on gender equality, diversity and/or women's development issues in emerging markets;
  • Excellent project management, project coordination and organisatorial skills;
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and ability to interact effectively with EBRD staff and management from a variety of backgrounds;
  • Excellent written and oral English language skills;
  • Experience in the EBRD's countries of operations would be an advantage;
  • Experience in working with/in Civil Society organisations would be desirable.
