EDF Trading require a Power Trader to strengthen their Central and Eastern European trading desk.

EDF Trading is able to offer physical acquisition, management and delivery of natural gas, power and coal in the United States and Canada.  In Europe, it is one of the largest participants in the power and gas markets and was one of the first entrants into the global market for liquefied natural gas.  EDF Trading participates in the EU emissions market since it began and is one of the top buyers of carbon credits from Clean Development Mechanism projects around the world.  The global coal and freight business is the largest importer of coal into Europe.  EDF Trading is also a pioneer in the biomass market.

EDF Trading is a 100% owned subsidiary of EDF Group, Europe’s leading electricity producer, a major player in renewable energies, a significant participant in the worldwide revival of nuclear energy with a growing presence in the natural gas industry.  EDF Group operates in all areas of the energy sector including generation, transmission, distribution and supply.  It is a leader in the French market with a strong presence in the UK, Germany and Italy.  EDF Trading is the interface to the wholesale energy markets for EDF and its subsidiaries.

EDF Trading plays a key role in maximising the value of EDF Group’s large asset base. It has its own portfolio of assets which provide a sustainable foundation for its market activities.  These assets include gas storage facilities, pipeline capacity, coal terminals, long-term coal supply contracts, a fleet of vessels, railcars, cranes and barges.

EDF Trading has approximately 755 employees with offices in the UK, Europe, Asia, the United States and Canada.

 Responsibilities:

  • Generate positive P&L from within-month and curve electricity trading in CEE markets, focus on Hungary and South Eastern Europe
  • Active position and risk management
  • Development of trading strategies and their implementation
  • Monitor and analyse the CEE electricity markets and identify new trading opportunities as and when they arise
  • Build and maintain relationship with market players in the region
  • Ongoing development and maintenance of trading models
  • Support activities and strategies of other EDFT trading desks (Continental Power, Coal, CO2), provide analytical input
  • Help EDF group entities in CEE achieve their trading and hedging goals

Plus other duties as requested by your line manager

Experience:

  • Graduate qualification in analytically based discipline i.e. finance, maths, economics, science is necessary to effectively perform this role
  • No prior trading experience is required however candidates with some knowledge or experience are preferred
  • At least one year's experience of banking/finance/commodities is necessary in order to understand the nature of our business
  • Market analysis experience beneficial otherwise candidate should have strong analysis skills

Requirements

  • Candidate must be fluent in English and one or more Eastern European language (preferably Hungarian, Bulgarian, Romanian)
  • Knowledge of the CEE power/energy markets beneficial
  • Strong computer skills, specifically Excel
  • Numerate
  • Knowledge of Reuters and Bloomberg beneficial

We will provide training for the successful candidate.

Hours of work: 6.30am start each morning, Monday to Friday
