This position holds responsibility for formulating the strategic financial direction of the Bank and maintaining standards of practice that ensure the way the lines of business are managed financially is at a high level/best practice. The level of advice offered to the Managing Directors and others in the Executive needs to be expert in its nature and incorporated into the significant decisions made.

This role also has a divisional Finance responsibility, leading the financial functions of the Division’s portfolio of businesses to influence its strategic direction and its resource allocation. This part of the role interacts heavily with the Division’s leadership team and financial strategy functions.

Key Accountabilities 

  • Enable the Bank’s businesses to achieve revenue, financial risk targets and expenses (including FTE) within budget/forecast, by providing effective financial management reporting, direction, advice, and supporting performance based information.
  • Provide strategic advice to the Executive Group regarding use of financial information.
  • Manage the annual financial target setting process and all ancillary related activities throughout the year and drive departments within The Bank to deliver financial targets that exceed expectations. Ensure financial targets represent challenging stretches for the businesses/departments.
  • Use forecast projections to assist in assessment of business performance of The Bank overall and particular products and initiatives. Ensure appropriate procedures are introduced to mitigate potential risk factors and ‘no surprises’ in respect to business unit financial performance.
  • Ensure the integrity of The Bank financial data and performance by creating and enforcing rigorous, comprehensive business controls which may involve reviewing and refining/creating systems, process and procedures, implementing measurement systems to ensure adherence to processes and procedure and monitoring accordingly.
  • Continue to embed sound and rigorous financial management strategies, processes and systems into the Bank that will enable bottom up planning, budgeting and forecasting. Plan, manage and monitor business initiatives and projects that have significant financial implications to the business’ growth and performance.
  • Engage in critical discussions with key stakeholders internally within Bank, including the Managing Director, Group CFO, and internal Business Managers regarding issues that may impact on the business performance of the Bank and recommend appropriate strategies to resolve.
  • Provide effective leadership requirement and management to:
    • Maintain a high level of staff engagement
    • Ensure that good staff are retained, and attracted to work in the area
    • Ensure Staff develop strong technical skills
    • Monitor and manage Staff performance
  • Develop the team's core financial management capabilities that will facilitate sound business decisions and embed a profitability mentality and growth mindset.
  • Manage key initiatives in a timely and effective manner achieving or exceeding outcomes, such as introducing a Profit & Loss approach to managing the Bank’s business.
  • Ensure that The Bank’s financial governance is of top quality compliance reporting requirements are constantly met in conjunction with Group CFO.

CANDIDATE SPECIFICATION:

1.     QUALIFICATIONS:
 
Basic Degree preferably in Accounting and Finance

2.     CERTIFICATION:
ACCA/ CPA/ MBA (Finance Specialisation)

3.     EXPERIENCE:
The successful candidate will have extensive experience in running a large Finance or Consulting function within / related to the financial service, including working with and influencing senior executives as well as experience in managing, recruiting and developing a team

4.     SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE

• Sound business management experience skills with expertise in reporting on costs and revenue aspects of a large scale end-to-end business and knowledge of the world’s best practices in strategic financial management of growth businesses

• Demonstrate Leadership skills and qualities to lead a Finance team through the identification and selection of high calibre finance specialists and the ongoing motivation, development and retention of these individuals

• Knowledge of the Investment Bank and Corporate Institutional Banking business, its key business drivers and industry trends would be a strong advantage

• Broad knowledge of accounting standards & reporting requirements, regulatory framework set by relevant authorities/agencies in banking and finance industry, including the BAFIA, Companies Act and Income Tax Act

• Demonstrated experience in working at the Leadership level of organisations and skilled in providing sound authoritative advice and recommendations to MD and management teams

• Highly-developed analytical skills in drawing the conclusions around key business management and financial pieces of work and influencing skills to persuade key decision-makers to implement solutions around this.

• Particularly strong in bringing about change in the way people within the business think about financial management and driving what success looks like in the lines of business
