Job Purpose Summary:
The incumbent will assume prime responsibility for assessing the adequacy and effectiveness of processes and procedures submitted to the incumbent for review/ comments by the respective departments/ units of the Group and thereby helps in reinforcing the corporate view of ‘the way things should be done’.
Further, the incumbent will act as the repository of all approved processes and procedures and ensure their timely publication on the intranet subsequent to the same being approved.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities by Dimensions:
A.Shareholder & Financial:
-Ensure the existence of robust processes and procedures for the activities conducted by the Group’s constituents to enhance internal controls; and thereby minimize the possibility of errors/ misappropriations with the consequent impact on financial/ reputation risk.
-Create Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s) for performance monitoring and quality measurement purposes for department/ unit personnel and monitor their achievement on periodic basis.
-Assist in the department/ unit’s annual budgeting process.
B.Customer (Internal & External):
-Negotiate with internal departments/ units for finalization of Service Level Agreements (SLAs) for turnaround times (TAT) with respect to review of the processes and procedures submitted by them to the incumbent for review/ comments.
-Review the processes/ procedures submitted for comments and evaluate them to highlight improvements which will consequently help increase external customer satisfaction by way of improved process flows, reduced processing times etc.
-Build and maintain strong and effective relationship with the all other related departments and units to achieve the Group’s goals/ objectives.
-Provide timely and accurate information to the external and internal auditors and the Compliance function as and when required.
C.Internal (Processes, Products, Regulatory):
-Ensure that minimum standards of control and management disciplines are in place whenever transactions are processed/ services are performed by a Group constituent.
-Assist the Head of Operational Risk in the establishment of detailed Operational Risk policies and procedures to manage the various aspects of operational risk within the Group.
-Create and implement analytical tools, which help identify risks associated with processes submitted to the incumbent for review and ensure these risks are adequately controlled/ mitigated through introduction of appropriate checks and balances which are documented in the process flowcharts/ procedures.
-Assist the Head of Operational Risk in ensuring that Operational Risk processes cover all operational areas of the Group by provision of information relating to new products/ processes (manual/ system) to be implemented/ introduced across the Group, based on the requests received for review of the related processes and procedures.
-In partnership with business management and Group Internal Audit, participate in post incident reviews if and when requested to ensure that necessary remedial actions/ control improvements are implemented to prevent recurrence of future losses/ events, based on the analyses performed for the root causes.
-Act as the repository of all approved processes and procedures and ensure their timely publication on the intranet subsequent to the same being approved.
-Provide informative risk information MIS reports to the Head of Operational Risk.
D.Learning & Knowledge:
-Possess an understanding of business processes and controls across all Group activities.
-Maintain an understanding of all pertinent regulations as well as best practices pertaining to the overall operations of the Group.
-Address and resolve complaints of departmental/ unit personnel and manage/ assess their performance.
E.Other:
-Maintain confidentiality with respect to commercially sensitive information.
Education/Experience Requirements:
-Bachelor/ Masters Degree preferably in business, finance, economics or related subjects.
-Professional certification from a recognized body (CA, CPA, CIA would be preferred).
-Minimum of 6-8 years experience in a banking industry of which at least 3 years in a managerial capacity in operational risk function.
Required Special Skills:
-Strong understanding of operational risks across the full range of products/ processes/ activities performed by Group constituents.
-Fraud prevention/management experience would be preferred.
-Prior experience of designing/ developing processes and procedures across a geographically dispersed banking entity dealing in a variety of products.
-Excellent oral and written communication skills in English and Arabic (preferred).
-Proficiency in risk concepts, banking products/ operations/ systems, pertinent regulatory requirements, International Accounting Standards and related pronouncements.
-Knowledge of Basel Committee best practices pertaining to Operational Risk.
-Exercise high degree of initiative and thinking to perform complex tasks where no procedures or processes are available.
-Well-developed analytical and interpersonal skills.
-Ability to deliver under pressure.
-Ability to build relationships across the organization to deliver results.
-Knowledge of flowcharting tools/ techniques.
Operating Environment/ Location:
-Located at Company Headquarters with visits to domestic and overseas entities, as and when required/ considered necessary.

-Regulatory authorities, external auditors.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
-Directly supervises the activities of the Officer, Process Risk & Procedures Review.
