The Responsibilities
The key purpose of this role is to support the Regional Manager, Strategic Finance (Asia) in the broad areas of strategic planning and business development; commercial and strategy projects; major, complex capital projects; balance sheet structuring and complex financing arrangements for subsidiary entities, and other activities that will have a significant strategic impact on the Asian organisation.
This role is a broad-based development role, providing wide exposure across a range of commercial and strategic finance activities across the Asian organisation, including but not limited to the following:
1. Strategic Planning and business development, in conjunction with other team members:
- support the development of all relevant planning templates/tools and co- facilitation of the annual strategy and business planning process;
- develop financial model(s), overall analysis and presentation to facilitate the identification of business development and other opportunities to increase EBIT and ROIC, including commercial analysis and valuation, scenario and risk analysis, project management of internal resources and external advisers,
2. Commercial and strategy projects across the company –
- Assist in the development of regional and country strategy, and co-leadership and participation in commercial and strategy projects analyzing key business drivers;
- Assist in the identification, analysis and implementation of critical regional initiatives to improve business EBIT and ROIC and/or manage risk
- Assist in developing and utilizing strategic and commercial frameworks to correctly frame issues and analysis
- Assistance to Business for critical business unit initiatives to improve EBIT and ROIC
3. Major, complex capital projects –
- Commercial analysis of major, complex capital projects, including assessment of key commercial benefits and risks
4. Balance sheet structuring and complex financing arrangements for subsidiary entities
- In conjunction with corporate treasury and country teams, assess appropriate structure of balance sheet, including evaluation of debt, equity, project and structured finance transactions and solutions
- Conduct due-diligence and analysis to support decision on financing and structuring arrangements that meet commercial, tax, legal and accounting objectives (eg. preference shares)
5. Ad-hoc research projects and business activities associated with BlueScope Asia
- Undertaking research for major commercial, strategic and capital projects
6. Support the development and improvement of strategic and commercial capability with Asia region, as and when necessary:
- Development of standard templates, documentation and processes that can be leveraged across Asia
- Development of training and knowledge management capability
The Person
- 4-6+ years experience in an investment bank / strategy consulting firm or in-house corporate role with exposure to mergers & acquisitions and / or due diligence experience looked upon favourably. Demonstrated written and verbal presentation skills
- Demonstrated business and analytical skills, particularly development and facilitation of the use of strategic and commercial frameworks to correctly frame issues, analysis and work plan
- Strong corporate finance valuation, excel and financial modelling skills to model integrated P&L, Cash Flow, Balance Sheet and corporate impact analysis
- Strong team leadership, interpersonal and relationship skills; strong report writing and presentation skills
- Steel industry knowledge or experience in heavy manufacturing/building products an advantage
- Experience in Merger & acquisition execution and due diligence experience; particularly, company valuation techniques and corporate finance theory (eg. IRR, NPV, multiples, financial ratios) will be well regarded but not necessary
- Mandarin or other regional language fluency will be well regarded
- Commerce / Business Degree or equivalent; MBA well regarded
